Logo or no logo?

Logo, or no Logo?

The NCMA has received lots of post about whether childminders can use the Ofsted logo.

Ofsted does not permit any childcarers to use its logo on their websites or printed materials and has asked all childcarers to remove the logo from any printed or online materials - particularly websites - as quickly as possible. NCMA asked Ofsted for reasons.

While Ofsted is very happy for childminders to publicise the fact they are registered with Ofsted as this is factually correct, it doesn't permit the use of its main logo because its appearance on childcarers' paperwork could be interpreted as an endorsement or recommendation of a particular childminder.

However, childminders who have been awarded "outstanding" in their inspection can now use a new "outstanding childminder" logo on their paperwork. Outstanding childminders should receive a disk holding this logo automatically following their inspection but, if you were graded outstanding and have not had this, call 0845 640 4040 to request a copy.

Currently accredited childminders who offer both care and education have to achieve "outstanding" in both care and education elements to use the new logo. NCMA is talking to Ofsted about this as accredited childminders who have outstanding in their care inspection lose out, despite having achieved the same standard of care as non-accredited childminders who are permitted to use the logo.

Child Car Seat Use in Cars, Vans and Goods Vehicles - Your Questions Answered
Update: 30th October 2006

New rules came into force on 18th September 2006 requiring children who are passengers in vehicles to use a child restraint.

We have run advertising from July to September in press, radio and online to advise parent and carers about the new regulations governing the use of child car seats.

Stephen Ladyman, Road Safety Minister said:

  • “Most people make sure that children use some kind of restraint when travelling on the road, but it is vitally important to use the right one; and not to use an adult belt before the child is big enough”.
  • “Small children need the protection that baby seats and child seats are designed to provide. Seat belts are designed for adults. Children who have grown out of child seats still need to use booster seats and booster cushions”.
  • “We estimate that these changes could prevent over 2000 child deaths or injuries each year”
